Furnace Maintenance Tips For Air Conditioning.

How to clean you outdoor air conditioning unit.

  1. Cleaning the outdoor coil is so important if you want  cold air conditioning to  come out of your vents. You can clean the outdoor coil by either hosing off the outdoor  condenser coil with a garden hose or brushing down the coil with a broom. Make sure that you shut off the high voltage  power to the condensing unit before attempting to  clean (there should be a main power shut off by the unit).   Also be careful not to damage the fins on the outdoor coil.  If the coil is very dirty you should consider having it cleaned out by a professional.  The cleaner your outdoor condenser is the colder the air is going to be and less energy the system will  use all summer.

How to check Refrigerant levels in your outdoor air conditioning system.

  1. Checking to make sure that your air conditioning system has enough Refrigerant in the system is easy to do. First turn your air conditioner  down on your thermostat so the outdoor condensing unit turns on. Then go outside by the outdoor condensing unit to make sure the fan is spinning. Wait  for the system to run at least 5 minutes. You will see two copper pipes coming out of the condensing unit. Grab the larger copper pipe and feel the temperature. The pipe should feel as cold as a can of soda that just came out of the refrigerator. If the pipe is warm than you know your outdoor condensing unit is low on coolant.  You will need to call us to stop out and recharge the system. An air conditioning system that is low on refrigerant will damage the system and cost you more money to keep your house cool.
